Welcome to The Edit—a collection of personal essays, observations, and photography about life as it is: beautiful, complicated, funny, occasionally messy, and always changing.
Each entry is an Edit, a closer look at something worth noticing. Friendship and family. Travel and home. Growing older and knowing ourselves better. The things we carry, the things we let go, and the small pleasures that make an ordinary day feel like something more.
Some Edits ask questions. Some tell stories. Others simply stop long enough to notice something I don't want to forget.
These stories may begin with me, but so much of what we feel, question, carry, and celebrate is shared. I hope you'll find something here that speaks to you, too.
THE EDIT
Edit 54: A Definition of Generosity
Nearly two decades of returning to Japan taught me something I didn't expect: that loving a place well sometimes means choosing not to share it. A reflection on generosity, restraint, and what it means to protect the places that have shaped you.
Edit 46: The Return
Jackson said it first, somewhere between the airport and Minamiazabu : “It doesn't feel like we're back in Japan.”. Maybe that's because a part of us never really left. We're back for a month, at the beginning of rainy season, and right where we belong.
